Our topic today was at the airport ✈

What do you see at the airport?
Check-in counter, check-in kiosk, baggage check, security gate, screening area, ticket agent, arrival and departure monitors, life vest, oxygen mask, etc

What do you do at the airport?
Check-in, show, go through, board, find, stow/store, fasten, turn off, turn on, take off, land, claim, etc

We practiced conversation at the immigration;

Immigration officer: Hello, may I see your passport please?
Passenger: Here you are.
I.O: What’s the purpose of your visit?
P: On business, on holiday, here as a student, visiting a friend, etc
I.O: For how long are you here for?
P: For 5 days, a week, 3 months, etc
O.I: Where will you be staying?
P: At ____ hotel, at my friend’s, with my home stay family, etc
O.I: Thank you.
P: Thank you.

We did a warm up with “ai” pronounce.

Then we practiced “ay” sound. Such as;

-Pay -Day -Today -Lay -Stay -Stray -Gray -Way -Anyway

We made fun sentences using these!

I was in Seoul Korea for 5 very cold days! Everyone was so curious!
So everyone took turns and asked me a question (while we eat Korean snacks) about my trip and what I felt about the city, people, environment, atmosphere, fashion and of course food. 💛

We discussed the differences between Japan and Korea which lead to my experience visiting aboard and living in other countries. Always be careful going somewhere new!

Autumn to winter! Weather has been changing a lot these days~
We did about weather~~~ ☀☔☁☂

How’s the weather? / What’s the weather like today?

It’s sunny! It’s cloudy, it’s rainy, it’s stormy, it’s dry, it’s wet, it’s clear, it’s damp, it’s humid, it’s freezing, it’s boiling!, etc.

Let’s put some verbs!
The sun is shining, the rain is falling down/ it’s raining, it’s snowing, it’s thundering, there’s a lighting! (Thunder = 聞こえる、Lighting = 見える)

We practiced reading temperature (eg. 14 degress Celsius)
Q- What’s the weather like in London?
A- It’s rainy and it’s 6 degrees. It’s cold.

We practiced the different ways of using the word “Right”.

For example;
-Turn at the right corner.
-He left right away.
-Are you all right?

One more which we use in casual conversation is asking for confirmation;
Q- You going to the VELCO party, right?
A- Right! (Means Yes!)

Q- You went to the Halloween party, right?
A- No, I couldn’t.

Yeah/ yes の代わりにも Right 使えます~
(I use it a lot when I free talk ✌)

We talked about what’s your plan for the coming new year holidays?
Some students has some really good travel plans! Going to Hokkaido, or even Australia to a warmer place! Lucky!

We talked about what you eat to stay warmer and ended up talking about different kinds of soups. Tomato soup, corn soup, mushroom soup, pumpkin soup, even onion soup!

We also talked a little about Christmas and everyone got curious of what ginger bread man (ginger bread cookie) is! I had it just once in my life and didn’t give me a good impression so I’ll try to make it for the coming season! 🍪🎄🍪⛄

It’s getting colder but do make yourself come to VELCO to practice English!

It’s Pocky day~ 🍫

We did about patterns of clothes, things and sizes with adjectives to describe.
Checked, flowered, print, large, small, medium, cheap, expensive, blue, green, high, low, thin, thick, long, short, etc.

We practiced the order of these, for example:
-He’s wearing a black, thin jacket.
-She has a pink big plaid hat.
-My dog has a cute pink toy.

We drew some clothes and described together too!

We did words that sound the same~

For example:
Eye – I
Hour – Our
Right – Write
Two – Too
Son – Sun
Wear – Where
See – Sea
Know – No

We practiced some sentences using these words and checked which is what.

Coughs and sneezes are common now with this change of weather!
So let’s talk about common illnesses/ sickness.

Some are: a cough, a fever, flu, headache, stomachache, earache, hay fever, backache, stiff shoulder, etc.

We can say somewhere is in pain or hurts. We practiced hurt (1+) or hurts (1).
For example; My leg hurts. My knees hurt. My eyes hurt. My ears hurt. My shoulder hurts. 

We practiced role-playing and different comfort words such as;
Take care! Get well soon! Get back to yourself!

13:00 ~ 14:00 3 Students

We practiced “X (K + S)” and a lot of energy needed “H”.

Some of the words were;
Box, fox, fix, ox, ax, complex, oxford, etc.
Hand, help, hello, husband, how, who, whole, etc.

We did a cute tongue twister; Mr.Fox is talking in the phone box.

We learnt some new words today! By talking by temptation, craving (something you really want right now, usually for food). One student’s usually breakfast is melon bread and that made me want some during the class. Other’s wanted chocolate, curry rice, etc. We talked about so much food!

We also talked about what’s worth it? So for example, is USJ ticket price worth it?
Is Velco classes worth your time? etc.

We talked about different kinds of jobs with what they do;

Bus/taxi/truck driver: drives, delivers, transports, etc
Teacher: teaches, etc
Doctor: checks, fixes, etc
Artist: draws, creates, paints, etc
Dentist: checks, fixes, etc
Designer: designs, creates, etc
Clerk/ Receptionist: calls, schedules, etc
Sports player/ Athlete: plays, wins, etc

Halloween special 🎃
Entertainer (zombies, ghosts, monsters, etc):
surprises, scares!

We practiced a useful sentence!
I think being a/an (name) is a/an (adjective) job because you
have to/ get to (verb + what).

– Have to = ~やらなきゃいけない
+  Get to = ~できる

Eg. I think being a designer is an interesting job because you get to design posters.

You can answer with your opinion; I think so too! / I don’t think so.

We used acrylic paint and just with ear bud, TADA!

I went to a Halloween party last night and which I won a competition! So I told my students the amazing experience I had! And we all thought Velco parties should also have some interesting prizes! So we thought over what would be the perfect, everyone will enjoy prize. We got some good ideas, wine bottle, beer package set, restaurant coupons, etc.

I got my students into a spooky mood and asked some Halloween questions about where it came from or why it was celebrated. I was surprised that some students knew! Great knowledge to have and to get the conversation going! 👍
We also discussed what costumes are popular in Japan that they like to wear.

I had students ask me questions about something related to Halloween and we talked about favorite pumpkin dish, favorite horror movie, etc.

What an awesome topic! I am a teacher that really loves Halloween so let’s all enjoy this festive season! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 🍫🎃🍁

I asked everyone what their favorite snacks were as it’s almost Halloween!
And Halloween’s popular candy is candy corn! I tried it for the first time this year and it’s really sweet! We also talked about different time of rice flour, rice crackers.

Second class we talked about some culture differences comparing them to Japan.

Lastly we did some story making! All the stories ended up as a sad and not so happy ending… but very funny! Thank you for the laughs!

We talked about “Must visit”, “Must do” things in Japan.
We listed out some of them such as climb mount. Fuji, go to the tea leave farm, visit temples, eat Japanese food for breakfast, etc.

We also practiced conversations using adjectives,
It’s delicious, it’s amazing, it’s super, it’s ok, etc.

I got recommended from students to visit Nara! Thank you!

We talked about different types of “crime”. 😱

Such as; shoplifting, murder, stealing, mugging, robbery, speeding, hacking, vandalism, arson, etc.

We list out the verbs and the criminal. For example:
Shoplifting = steal/ stole = shoplifter,
Murder = murdered = murderer

We also did an activity “Same” or “Different”:
