Hello all! I’m back for my (official) last Tuesday class. We talked a bit about how much sleep we would ideally get a night which lead into a conversation about the play “The Nutcracker.” We then talked about nuts and pecans, how the adjective “crispy” can be used for wine, and how to tell the different flavors in rice.

Some words we reviewed were: tart (like a cherry that isn’t ripe), pasteurize (how to make milk bacteria free), and walnuts (クルミ)

Thanks for coming, good work today.

Hello! Today We talked a bit about jokes in different countries and how much was contextual. At some point we moved onto drug pricing, the most useful things we own, and robots being used to comfort older people in Japan.

This will be my last Tuesday class, I’ll be moving to Thursdays starting next week. Hope to see you all there. Thanks for coming!

Hello! Today we had a slow day. We talked a bit about dogs and what pets we would like and the merits of older and younger dogs. For the second lesson we talked a lot about the current politics in America and about the origins of DACA (Differed actions on childhood arrivals, a law that helps immigrant children in the US).

Thanks for coming and for all the good conversation!

Hello! Today we talked about many things as usual. We started with conversations about last names around the world and their origins (mountain field and the like in Japan.) We then talked a bit about cockles (a type of clam in England) and childrens songs in Japan. For our next class we started with a discussion of what mascots are in Japan and Japanese superstitions. We ended the class with conversations about club activities and whether it was too much work for children and teachers.

We covered a lot of ground today, thanks for coming and talking!

Hello!

Today was a fairly slow day. We started the day by considering whether we would rather be alone forever or only talk to annoying people from now on. The answers were varied. From there we talked about annoying coworkers and how we deal with them. And then we went all over the place, talking a bit about things we loved in childhood and how children can have fun with everything. We wrapped up talking about technology in Japan (and fax machines) and the whether stay at home wives or business men had a better lifestyle. Lots to think about, thanks for coming!

Hello everyone! Today was a small class with very lively conversation. We started the day giving our opinions on whether we like books or movies more. This somehow morphed into a discussion about the Japanese custom, particularly omiyage and other types of present giving here. Our second lesson we talked about the difference between fate and destiny and whether we believe in that or coincidence.

Our class was very high level today so there were many difficult words being practiced in the lesson like supremacist, preeminent, and veal (among others).

Really fun conversations today, and lots of great English. Thanks for coming!

Hello!

Today we started talking a bit about goals, whether we have them and if they are helpful or stressful. Somehow that got into a lot about America and politics, and the political climate in Japan. We talked a lot about how life in Japan was different from New York and we touched on stereotypes of different parts of Japan. Lots of fun today, thanks for coming out!

Hey everyone! Today was a good day, lots of new faces! Thanks for coming out.

We talked a lot about animals we liked and didn’t like and what we thought of hunting in our first class. For the second class we got into a bit of politics and whether or not it’s a good idea politically to take refugees. Then somehow we got into how crazy my neighbor is.

Lots of good discussion, thanks so much for coming!

Hello!

Today we touched on many things. We started talking about travel and our longest travel times. We then started talking about work and whether we would (if given the chance) never work again. Then we got into language and whether language affected peoples personalities.

For our second lesson we talked a lot about technology and the future. Is it ok for the government to spy on us to keep us safe? What do we think about self driving cars? Is it ok to take a liver from a pig, or edit babies genes?

It was a lot of fun and really made me think. Thanks guys!

Hey guys!

For the next month Andrew will be out on Saturdays so you’ll be stuck with me! Today we discussed a range of topics. We got to college, living at home, ghosts, temples and shrines, and even summer festivals in Japan.

Thanks for coming out, even though there were fireworks nearby! Stay hydrated!
